The Moving and Storage Institute (MSI) is the philanthropic arm of the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) and was founded to foster educational opportunities for individuals in the moving and storage industry, to develop and conduct industry education, and to develop a better understanding of the transportation of household goods and warehousing. In recent years the MSI has achieved significant revenue growth, expanded and enhanced its educational focus, and launched a research agenda to support industry image and advocacy efforts.
One of the ways the MSI fulfills its mission is with the annual awarding of scholarships from the David Brodsky, Russell Schofield and Moving and Storage Institute Scholarship Program. Scholarships have benefited the children, families and employees of AMSA members throughout the U.S. and they continue to support learning opportunities for the next generation of industry leaders.
In 2008 the MSI commissioned its first industry research study, collecting and reporting comprehensive census and economic impact data on the moving and storage industry on both a national and state level.
In 2010, the MSI is commissioning a new study to collect and assemble financial benchmarking data on small and medium-sized moving and storage companies, both household goods movers and office movers, in the United States.

The MSI plays an important role in recognizing and lauding the noteworthy achievements and contributions of industry leaders through its Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Service.
The Moving and Storage Institute is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that relies on cash and in-kind contributions to support its mission.
